I am Steve Ratcliffe, a Technical Production Manager specialising in Lighting Design, Temporary Power Systems and Site Management.
Mood Live is my freelance creative practice, through which I personally lead each project—working closely with clients to turn creative ideas into well-executed, impactful live experiences.
I work flexibly, either embedded within existing teams or leading independently across all stages of production, from early planning through to on-site delivery. Where additional scale or specialist expertise is required, I collaborate with a trusted network of freelancers and suppliers to build the right team for each project.
My work blends creative ambition with rigorous technical execution, supporting projects of all sizes—from intimate theatrical performances to large-scale events and immersive experiences. Clear planning, coordination, and calm leadership sit at the centre of my approach.
With extensive experience across production process, technical implementation, and venue infrastructure, I bring a detail-driven, practical, and hands-on presence on site. Calm under pressure and focused on solutions, I prioritise clarity, accountability, and problem-solving throughout a project’s lifecycle.
Lighting design sits at the heart of my creative practice. Whether it’s theatrical storytelling, creating immersive atmospheres, or choreographed musical light shows, I use light to shape space, emotion, and guest experience—always with a strong understanding of technical and site-specific realities.
Alongside this, I bring over 25 years of on-site electrical engineering experience across multiple sectors. From temporary event power distribution to permanent installations, I ensure electrical systems are delivered safely, reliably, and in full compliance with industry regulations—helping clients reduce risk and move forward with confidence.

From subtle architectural and atmospheric lighting to dynamic, choreographed musical light shows, I use light to shape space, mood, and audience experience—always with practical on-site delivery considerations in mind.
Technical Consultancy
I support projects with technical production planning, system design, feasibility assessments, and on-site problem-solving.
This ensures creative ideas are fully deliverable, efficient, and robust from concept through to live execution.
